Until c.1400, gemcutters had not yet mastered faceting, and the cabochon was king of the cuts. I love the jelly colored ruby set up high and away from the band; it makes this ring a throwback to ancient times, and gives the piece a regal, majestic feel.
Beautiful for yourself, but would also be a knock out as an engagement ring.
